Elaine Chai is a multi-disciplinary illustrator, designer and educator. Born in China and raised in Kunming. She is passionate about the intersection of gender, immigration and visual culture.
Elaine holds an MFA degree in Illustration and Visual Culture from Washington University in St. Louis Sam Fox School of Design, and a BD degree in Illustration from Ontario College of Art and Design University.
Her works have featured minority groups of women, immigrants and children. Her graduate thesis work THE FOOD COURT: Chinese Immigrant Food Stories in Toronto and St. Louis was selected by ICON 12 to present in Minneapolis in July 2024. Additionally, her undergrad works have been featured in the Artbattle 2019 Artist Competition and the Next Wave 2018 Artist Show in Toronto, Canada.
